How to Control a 4l80E with a GM 16197427 ECM


Intro

The GM 16197427 ECM can be used as a stand-alone 4l80E transmission controller. By disabling all engine related flags and piggy-backing the harness to your existing ECM you can use your current ECM for engine management and the 16197427 for transmission control. This how-to will attempt to explain every step of the process but it will focus on using the 16197427 with a Sy/Ty 1227749 ECM. Most of the parts needed can be obtained at a Junk Yard for $50 or less.

5.) Burning the bin to the chip

The 16197427 uses a 64k byte bin. You will need a 512k C2 SST 27SF512 chip as 1 byte is 8 bits so 64kbits * 8 = 512k bits. You can get these at http://www.moates.net for $5.

When buring the bin to the chip select 29SF512 as the chip type. Set the start address to 0000 and the end to FFFF for both the buffer and chip. Select load file to buffer and select the desired bin file. Select write chip. Its probably not a bad idea to verify the data is on the chip after you write it..  When you install the chip in the carrier the little notch of the chip needs to face towards the outside of the ECM.
